Man killed by police after hostage standoff
June 25, 2008Recommend
A Park Forest man was one of two people killed Tuesday in a hostage standoff with police in Dolton.–
Police said Michael Rodgers, 34, of 102 Lester Road, was killed by officers when he emerged from an insurance office in the 1000 block of East Sibley Boulevard after about three hours and pointed a gun at officers.
The woman, whose identity had not been released as of late Tuesday night, was found dead inside Low Cost Auto Insurance, where Rodgers had held her hostage and apparently shot her, authorities said.
Robert Berry, manager of a Kentucky Fried Chicken restaurant that shares a parking lot with Low Cost Auto Insurance, said police surrounded the business about 2:15 p.m. About three hours later, Berry said he heard “five or six shots” and then saw a man lying in the street.
Berry said the streets around Low Cost Auto Insurance were closed by Dolton police. The Kentucky Fried Chicken shut down early Tuesday because of the police activity, he said.
Dolton police were not commenting Tuesday night on details of the shooting.
