Isolated

I am sitting at the McDonald’s at the Chicago Board of Trade watching everyone rush by as they frantically climb over each other to get to their destination. April, 2003 I left this hectic pace of corporate Chicago and entered the full time world of ministry. Since my time of working and playing in the loop I see that many things have changed.

When I left the corporate world people were just beginning to use MP3 players…now almost everyone I see walking in front of this window has some sort of ear pieces nestled snugly in their ears. People are bumping into one another and with not even a nod of apology just adjust their stride and keep moving. Even if you wanted to say something to someone they would not be able to hear you over the sound of their favorite downloaded tunes. No one speaks, no one even acknowledges that there are hundreds of other people around them. It seems that with the invention of the MP3 player we have successfully created our own personal utopia where we as individuals are the only thing that matters.

Is this sort of isolation what God wants for us? Did He not create us in His image? Is fellowship a part of the image of God?

I can’t help but see the kind of world that we are creating…and I have to say it is really sad to experience the intense isolation that I see when there are hundreds of people around all wanting the same thing…Real Honest and Loving Relationships!

Lord, help us to turn away from the trend of isolation and realize that you have created us to love and to be loved by others in return. Help us Lord to step out of our comfortable isolation and extend your love to someone around us today!

By the way, I am down here to get paperwork straight for our closings…so I am not just playing! You know maybe today will be the start of ROCC downtown…I could see us setting up a bible study down here. Pray that if that is God’s will tat the provision will become evident.
