Holy Huddle

I am sitting at a conference today with hundreds of people from around the country as we learn how to effectively lead an ALPHA group in our community. It is always great to be around other like minded people when I attend these kinds of conferences. I gain a lot of knowledge and a lot of good information that can assist me as I desire to do my best as I lead the church that God has placed me in.

In one particular session we were challenged to get out of our “Holy Huddles” and to be intentional about finding and hanging out with non-christian people. This concept really made me think about how intentional I am about this. How often do I seek out non-christian events and activities where I can meet people that are far from Christ. The speaker told us that when we are intentional about this that our life will really get complicated because all of a sudden we are faced with having to ask the question “What Would Jesus Do” when we are interacting with people that do not share our values.

It really made me think about the time when Jesus was invited to a dinner that was the home of a known man that was open in his lifestyle about not following God. Jesus knew people would question why he would attend such a dinner yet he did it anyway! Jesus also sat by and allowed a promiscuous woman to lay at his feet and anoint his feet with perfume while she was lavishly crying and then drying his feet with her hair. To the religious person this was viewed as very wrong! How could Jesus allow such a passionate display of affection?

Lord, help us today to reach outside of our Christian circle so we may impact the non-believing world for you! Help us Lord to not be so religious that we turn our backs on those that need your love and grace!
