Police are looking for a man who broke into a home in Riverdale and shot a woman and a girl while they slept.

Police were called about 11 p.m. Wednesday to a report of two people shot at a house in the 500 block of West 136th Street. Upon arrival, police found a 38-year-old woman and 14-year-old girl with two gunshot wounds each, Riverdale police said.

A man wearing dark clothes pushed open the front door, approached the woman sleeping on the couch and shot her in the head and shoulder, police said. The man then shot the girl, who was sleeping on a different couch, in the back and leg, police said.

No hospital information was available.

The gunman then ran out of the house and fled the area, police said.

Six other people were upstairs at the time of the shooting, but none was injured.

Riverdale detectives are investigating.
