Kids
I went to a school Christmas program today and my heart was touched in a greater way than I could ever imagine. First off the kids did such a great job with all the songs, dances, poems and skits. The outfits brought joy to all those in attendance. During the performance I was constantly hearing my name called out from children in various places around the gym. As I scanned the room I saw many of the kids proudly wearing their River Oaks Community Church shirts which made my heart glad. So everything was fabulous until the play was over. At the end of the performance the kids were released to go to their parent or relatives and they quickly ran off the bleachers into the crowd of adults. Before I could stand up I was surrounded by many children all calling my name. Many of these children attend our church on a weekly basis but many more do not. In fact some of the kids I only remember seeing during Vacation Bible School over the summer yet they all ran to me. I started to scan the room and I realized that these children did not have anyone there for them so they ran to me in order to have a since of belonging and they each wanted me to go to their classrooms. I was so moved by sadness and joy at the same time. Saddened by the fact that no one was there for them and over joyed by the fact that they are happy to have someone to cling onto even if they haven’t been an active part of the church family. I can see a desire in their heart to belong to something loving and positive! Ok…so I have to pull myself back together and get ready to go and share some more holiday cheer with children in Englewood.
