Faith is an action word

January 16, 2012

So this thought has been laid on my heart today and I do believe it is for all of us that seek Christ. The Lord laid this on my heart last night and since then I have just kept pondering it and it even came to life more while sitting in a MLK service and thinking about all that Dr. King did for our nation and the world.

The thought that God laid on my heart is that Faith is an action word. Let me explain, the bible says that faith without works is dead as we see in James 2:17.
17 So you see, faith by itself isn’t enough. Unless it produces good deeds, it is dead and useless.
So faith must produce good deeds or the faith is dead. We all say we have faith but we must ask ourselves if that faith is producing anything. Is our faith just something we say or is there specific action as a result of our faith?

Again the bible tells us that we are to walk by faith as we see in 2 Corinthians 5:7.
7 For we walk by faith, not by sight
Some translations even say it this way they say we live by faith. Whether we live or walk they both imply some sort of action. Our faith needs to be more than mere words and a very real action that we take each day.

I believe that Dr. King understood this and it is evident that faith to him was action. Let us take this as an opportunity to put our faith into practice and show the world our faith by the actions we take.
