Awesome Mid-Week Service

August 29, 2007

What an awesome time tonight! I think I should miss Sunday service every week now just so that we will have such a great time on Wednesday. It was really great to see everyone tonight and I pray that we can keep this up. I may have to ask Rick to cook every week because it was either his cooking or just the fact the Ecuador team had missed church for 2 Sunday’s that made this such an incredible night!

Now…as a reminder do not forget that Sunday is our Friend Day service and Cook-out after the 11am service. We will have a gift for the person with the most guest in each service. After service we will end our summer of outreach by enjoying some popcorn, cotton candy and SHAVED ICE!!! So invite all your friends to come and celebrate Christ with us as we thank God together for all that He has done through us this summer.

Just a small list of what we have been able to implement and do:
1. The bus ministry has begun and we are bringing new people into the church each week.
2. The Compassion Ministry has taken food packs out every other Saturday to serve a real need and pray with the families that we serve!
3. The largest Vacation Bible School in ROCC history!
4. The largest non-Easter Sunday attendance (July 1st)
5. School Supply Give-Away where we supplied kids in our community with 300 backpacks filled with school supplies and bibles!
6. Mission Trip to Washington DC
7. Mission Trip to Ecuador

Thank You ROCC family for making this the best and fastest summer ever!!

We’re BACK!!!

August 27, 2007

Finally at about 3pm yesterday we arrived in the church parking lot! It has been a crazy ride trying to get back home but we made it! I will definitely update this soon with all of our adventures…now it is time for rest!

New Experiences!

August 26, 2007

Well I get to chalk up another new experience! Our flight was delayed in Ecuador and we are spending the night in Miami after finally getting out of Ecuador. I was really sad Saturday morning to be leaving such a beautiful country but after it was all said and done and after sitting in the airport for 11 hours waiting for our flight I had enough! Fortunately when we arrived in Miami we were told that American Airlines had arranged hotel rooms for each of us. So here I sit in the lobby of the hotel at 3:15am Miami time waiting for the video I just finished to upload on the web so that Jacob can download it and take it to church. Yes that is right…River Oaks Community Church will be doing a video venue this week!

It was kind of cool working with Mike Sr while we filmed the message. The hard part was trying to put it all together while sitting in the Ecuador airport!! God made a way and we will see how things go. I know that Mike Jr will do an awesome time tomorrow with the worship team and we should be back in Chicago around 9am so hopefully we will make the 11am service.

Amazing Day!

August 24, 2007

Now this was a unique day! We had the awesome opportunity to stand in the Northern and Southern Hemisphere at the same time! We also tried to walk a straight line on the Equator which is almost impossible due to the magnetic pull. Also, we saw proof the water in the toilet really does flow in different directions in the two hemispheres. The word for today was simply AMAZING!!!

We also went to the top of a volcano which put us between 12 and 13 thousand feet in the air. The view was great but it was really cold! You can see a picture below showing what happened on our way up.

Also below you will see the new watches that we got in the Indian Market all the watches were between 10 and 15 dollars! I now have an “officially certified” fake Rolex!!!

Now it is time to get in bed as we have a really early morning tomorrow. Our bus is leaving here at 6am and we head to the airport to come back home! We are going to miss all the friends we made here in Ecuador. The country and the people are really beautiful!

The Hard Part Is Over!

August 23, 2007

Well we are back in Quito and preparing for a day of sight seeing and shopping tomorrow! The work has been hard and a few of us have been ill but we made it and the church is just about ready to hold service. The are just waiting for windows and electricity then services will begin! What an amzing time working with some of the locals and seeing the church near completion.

Message from Ecuador

August 19, 2007

Just wanted to let everyone know that we made it and how much we appreciate your prayers and support!

In Miami

August 18, 2007

Well so far everything is on schedule. Things were a little rough in Chicago as we were running a little behind but we made it! Our flight here was on a big 777 and it was really nice and advance yet it was too crowded!! As we were getting close we hit a rough spot that had us thinking we had just gotten on a ride at Disney!

So in just a moment we will be boarding the plane and heading on to Ecuador then we have a fun bus ride up the mountain! Continue to pray that God will guide and strengthen us!!

Loading Up!

August 18, 2007

It is 6am and I am ready to roll!

I stand in complete awe at what God is doing! 20 years ago no one would have thought that I would be going to a foreign country and preaching the Gospel! God has a unique way of turning things around. Soon the team will be here and we will be loading into the van and off on a wild adventure for Jesus. I will keep this updated as often as possible so make sure you check back often to see what God is doing through and with us in Ecuador.
